About
Gina Axlund is an artist currently residing in Sweden. She makes paintings, original prints and objects from her tiny studio in the Nordic countryside. She paints and draws women as she would like the world to see them - not sexual objects, but intellectual and independent creatures of all sizes, shapes and ages. Her work is shown in Europe and Asia.
Artist statement
I paint people and most often women. Females have historically been depicted as objects of the male gaze or as muses. My works is for women who want to feel seen as they are, imperfect but real. It’s not unusual that I revisit motifs in different mediums, much like looking at an object from different angles.
