ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint and draw women. I paint and draw myself.

I’m the product of the cultural norms I’ve been exposed to. How I see myself is in many ways directly influenced by how society sees upon women of my age, race and background.

Can I break free from those norms? Can I come to terms with the vessel that carries me through life? Is it possible to explore womanhood freed from the male gaze that engages nudity as a means of seduction and pleasure?

In my work the female body is a safe place; warm, soft, welcoming, free, exhilarating, content and desirable.

I like to jump between mediums and techniques as they allow me to express different stories. I paint, print, draw and make collages and artist books.
