Key word: introspection

Today was the last day of school in Sweden and it marks the beginning of the summer for many people. Summer is usually a very active time if you're an artist. It's a time of exhibitions, cultural events and also creating work. The days are never ending (or so it seems), the weather is lovely, and I have time off of my regular job. So, tons of time to spend in the studio! Yet, this year I will be shifting things around a bit. I haven't planned any solo exhibitions for 2026, and it actually feels very freeing. I get to use this time for introspection, experimenting in the studio and focusing on what themes I want to explore in the future.

So why am I writing this if I have no exhibition news to share? Well, I wanted to mention Kulturkossans Spring Salon, that's currently taking place in Bjuråker, Sweden. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it. It's not only an exhibition, in the curator, Maria Norén's home, but also a whole vibe! The Spring salon is on until 21st June and I'm participating with a textile piece - "Fat Bitch".

The cotton substrate of this embroidery has been sitting in my studio since 2024. That year I worked with natural dyes at the International Artist's symposium in Italy. I used rusty objects and plants. Although I loved the result, I never found a way to use it in my work... up until now, that is. The sheet is 220 cm long, so the embroidered figure is life size. You can see the whole piece in motion here.

In the studio I'm working with a large canvas (life size format) once again. I've been painting it since last September but had to work on it sporadically at first, as it resided at a friend's much larger studio. A couple of months ago, I realised I could move things around in the house, so it moved in with the rest of the family. It's not even close to finished, but it's in a state that can be shown to others without med feeling super awkward about it. So here we go!

Talking about paintings, another piece I completed this spring is already available for purchase. It's called "Coffee and Boots" and it sums up my youth quite well. Well, I left the cigarette out, but smoking isn't as much a thing nowadays as it was back in the day when young me roamed the streets of Athens. You can see more photos of it here.

Ok, I'm not going to make this post unnecessarily long, even though I haven't sent out anything since February. I'm wishing you a relaxing and warm summer, spending it however makes your heart sing. <3
